Located in central Russia, Lake Karachay is considered one of the most toxic lakes on earth. It may look a beautiful lake at first glance, but looks can actually deceive you (and kill you). It is because the Russian government polluted the lake with toxic waste in an era when there weren’t many regulations on dumping toxic waste. The toxicity level is so high in Lake Karachay that it could kill you within an hour. The good news is that the government decided to fill in the lake with concrete. In a few years, this lake won’t be able to scare the local inhabitants of the area.
