If you're ever in doubt about your own DIY skills, it's probably best to hire a contractor. They know exactly what they're doing, and you lessen the chances of encountering problems in the long run. But this person obviously realized that a little too late, as they'd already tried to attach this ceiling fan to the ceiling before they realized they could pay someone to do it for them. And it didn't go well.
