If you look at the photo below, you might see what looks like typical American suburbia. But while the houses in Bakersfield, California, look large and well put together, many of them sit empty due to the decline in the number of people who live there. That's because Bakersfield is home to numerous power plants, which means that the city is one of the most polluted places in the United States.
