Stairwells Aren't the Best Place for Optical Illusions

Here's some free advice to hotel interior designers: if the stairs have to be carpeted, please don't use a striped design. That is, of course, unless the hotel is looking to be sued for a lot of money by guests who constantly fall down the staircase. Even fully sober and walking slowly, these stairs are an accident waiting to happen, so how about for guests who are augmenting their vacation with a couple of margaritas? We dread to think.

The only possible benefit to having stripy stairs is that they hide dirt. The question is, can they hide the bloodstains from all those people falling down and hitting their faces on the floor?
