The phrase "gone up in flames" is normally reserved for hypothetical situations, but it seems as though this person's dream vacation turned into a nightmare when they were dealt with this real-life situation on the very first day of their vacation. Yes, they had traveled hours to spend time in this 100-year-old family cabin, only to experience a large storm that ultimately caused the house to burn down. Thankfully, everyone escaped unscathed.
